CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Administrative Team

Enrollment

  • Answers inquiries about the program i.e. phone calls and walk-in requests for information regarding student enrollment.
  • Maintains log of requests for information and action.
  • Conducts tour of the Center and arranges for classroom observations and visitations.
  • Maintains waiting list for each class.
  • Plans for promotions each month, based on the recommendations of each classroom team leader.
  • Sets enrollment for classes in last week of each month.
  • Keeps parking tag log for entrance at gate to University Housing.
  • Maintains log of students withdrawing from the Center.
  • Maintains children's files for inspection by the Department of Health regarding immunization records etc.
  • Maintains an up-to-date emergency file on all children enrolled.
  • Maintains a record of incident/accident reports for the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
  • Provides staff phone list, emergency information, and birthday list.
  • Provides promotion certificates, children's birthday lists, etc. to teachers as needed.
  • Conducts employee orientation and initial training.
  • Prepares files of new employees and maintains current employee records for review for the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
  • Prepares employee training records for review by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
  • Collects tuition and processes cash receipts.
  • Enters and processes all PeopleSoft transactions.
  • Processes timecards.
  • Provides up-to-date attendance sheets for the following month.
  • Arranges annual (mandatory by the Department of Health) vision and hearing screening of all children in the Center who are 4 years old or older.
  • Facilitates actual screening process.
  • Completes and files mandatory reports.

Management Team

Curriculum Development 

  • Maintains file on program offered in each class:
    • parent information
    • yearly curriculum plans
    • developmental check list
    • class schedule
  • Previews weekly plans - gives suggestions when applicable.
  • Plans yearly themes.
  • Plans field trips and assists teachers with suggestion list.
  • Keeps file of child development articles for staff.
  • Maintains library of curriculum ideas for teacher resources.
  • Plans summer program.
  • Coordinates enrichment classes.
  • Provides regular distribution of reports to parents i.e. kindergarten report cards, field trip permission slips, etc.
  • Maintains pool of children's books and tapes.
  • Gathers information and composes monthly calendars and yearly calendar.
Parents   
  • Attends all meetings and advises Building Blocks parent organization.
  • Assists in any ways needed with Building Blocks activities.
  • Maintains a file of parent information.
  • Participates in parent conferences as needed in special situations.
  • Provides information to parents by newsletter on a regular basis.
  • Handles parent concerns about individual children when needed.
  • Keeps parent handbook up-to-date.
Accreditation 
  • Keeps files of accreditation information current.
  • Observes classes regularly to ensure developmentally appropriate practices are in compliance.
Employees   
  • Interviews prospective employees and keeps applications on file.
  • Notifies Human Resources of need to hire new employees and makes decisions on proper applicants.
  • Enters PA transactions for appointments, terminations and maintenance of employee files.
  • Prepares weekly staff calendar.
  • Coordinates high school co-op students.
  • Coordinates work study program, payments, interviews, etc.
  • Coordinates sign-up with Human Resources.
Training   
  • Plans in-center training.
  • Assists in planning agenda for staff meetings.
  • Provides information of available workshops.
  • Participates in professional organizations and notifies staff of conferences and workshops available for training.
  • Keeps employee handbook and orientation information current.
Student Observers, Accreditation Mentoring Program   
  • Arranges for student or teacher observations and visitations.
  • Notifies staff of any observations scheduled.
  • Facilities actual visitation.
Scheduling   
  • Plans and supervises work schedule for employees.
  • Keeps employee handbook up-to-date.
Food Service 
  • Maintains file of current menus available for parent's review.
  • Assists in menu revisions.
  • Communicates with Food Services of any changes or problems.
Maintenance 
  • Communicates with UT Maintenance personnel about equipment needs (inside and outside facility) for maintaining the health and safety of the children.
  • Works with landscaping vendor to ensure that outside area of the Center is well maintained.
Equipment 
  • Maintains catalogue file of available materials.
  • Coordinates equipment and materials lists from teachers on purchases needed for the Center.
  • Arranges Fall and Spring book fair.
Reports 
  • Submits monthly report with enrollment statistics and monthly highlights.
  • Collects and reviews attendance sheets.
Special Events   
  • Plans and coordinates special events i.e. Open House, Dance Recital, Mother's Day and Father's Day activities, Family Picnic, etc.
Other Duties   
  • Acts as decision-making team member in the absence of the Team Leader.
 

TEACHING TEAM

Infant & Toddler Program, Pre-School & Kindergarten

  • Provide visual and auditory stimulation in a warm and nurturing atmosphere and implement approved child educational.
  • Encourage children to utilize their natural curiosity through exploration.
  • Prepare babies (from 6 weeks old until they begin to walk) to learn and grow in the infant room and older babies in the Young Toddler room.
  • Provide quality child care and education for children whose parents are students, faculty, or staff members of UT-Houston and other Texas Medical Center facilities.
  • Provide toddlers with rich developmental learning and growing activities.
  • Participates in meetings and makes recommendations regarding the purchase and utilization of equipment.
  • Participate in student/parent conferences.
  • Consult with parents of individual children.
  • Assist in supervising special activities.
  • Master a number of self-help skills (i.e. toilet training, dressing & self-feeding).
  • Provide quality child care and education for children whose parents are students, faculty, or staff members of UT-Houston and other Texas Medical Center facilities.
  • Provide a modified open concept environment featuring discovery centers that provide instructions for two (2), three (3) and four (4) year old children.
  • Concrete experiences facilitated through exploration.
  • Allow active participation and freedom of choice in a supportive atmosphere.
  • Provide quality child care and education for children whose parents are students, faculty, or staff members of UT-Houston and other Texas Medical Center facilities.
  • Assist in supervising special activities, events and programs.
