The
UTHSC-H Recreation Center offers a wide variety of quality
facilities, equipment, and programs designed for health and fitness,
as well as for fun and relaxation. Membership is open to all UT
students, faculty, staff and families and affiliates, including
Texas Medical Center institutions
WELCOME
to the UTHSC-H Recreation Center’s 20th Annual Summer Sports
Camp. Our staff eagerly awaits the arrival of your
children for a week of fun, fun, and more FUN! In addition
to some of the traditional sports, our camp seeks to expose
campers to new activities, develop recreational skills, and
promote social growth. Fun is the name of the game! We
strive to have your child arrive and leave camp with a smile
on their face.
The Program
The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-12. A variety
of sports, leisure, and educational activities will be taught.
Campers will be assigned to groups according to age and or skill
level. One field trip will be taken each session to various
locations. Previous trips have included Schlitterbahn,
Incredible Pizza Company, Fun-Plex, Main Event, and Putt-Putt. The
field trip cost is included in the registration fees. More
information will be included in the parent’s confirmation letter.
UTHSC-H Recreation Center
Located at 7779 Knight Road, the UTHSC-H Recreation Center
is a full service fitness facility for use by the UTHSC-H
students, faculty and staff and the TMC community. The
facility includes an Olympic-size swimming pool, outdoor
basketball and tennis courts, as well as outdoor athletic
fields, and indoor workout and multipurpose spaces.
Before Camp Campers who need to arrive earlier than
8:30a.m.can register for the Before Camp option which runs
from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. daily. (Due to the varying frequency of
children arriving or being picked up, these hours are not
programmed). Campers will be able to participate
in low-energy individual or group activities at the Recreation
Center. Campers dropped off earlier than 8:30 a.m.
will be charged for the Before Camp option ($10 per week).

Individuals, who register for more than one session, will receive
a $10.00 discount off each session of registration.
Registration Procedures Registration will be handled on a first come, first paid/served
basis.Enrollment is limited to the first 40
campers. Open Enrollment will begin April 1, 2008. Camper’s
roster spots can only be guaranteed with full payment. Registration
can be paid in full with cash or check made out to UTHSC-H.
Refunds available until May 30, 2008. A
$25.00 handling fee will be assessed to all refunds. NO REFUNDS will be granted after May 30th.
We HIGHLY encourage
early registration. All registration materials,
payment, and a copy of the child’s birth certificate must
be received in order to accept ANY camp
applicant.
Registration Location
Must register in person beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2008
at the UTHSC-H Recreation Center. A copy of the camper’s
birth certificate must be available at registration in
order to verify the campers age – NO EXCEPTIONS!
Once registration is full subsequent
applications will be placed on the waiting list and will
be notified as spaces become available. No guarantees!
Employment
Opportunities The Recreation Center hires camp counselors
on a contract basis for the 4 weeks of camp held in the summer. Counselors
must be able to work all 4 weeks for continuity of the program. Junior
counselor "volunteer/unpaid position" opportunities are
also available for those interested from ages 14-16. Must be able
to work minimum 2 weeks or can work the 4 weeks if desired. We start
accepting applications in February. If interested, please contact
